Code of Conduct

The high level of public support and respect that the Canadian Wildlife Federation enjoys results not only from recognition of its conservation mission, but from the high degree of integrity, objectivity, and professionalism of CWF volunteers and employees alike. Volunteers should recognize that they may be seen as representatives of the CWF. A summary of the volunteer ‘Standards’ pertaining to Code of Conduct are below:

1. Volunteers are expected to: adhere to, practice, and promote the Mission Statement and Values of CWF; and respect the regulations on the use of the CWF logo and prevent its misuse. CWF’s Mission and Values can be found online here.

2. Volunteers are expected to take direction from supervisors and adhere to CWF policies and procedures (see the National Volunteer Standards & Guidelines).

3. Volunteers will, at all times, conduct themselves in a professional manner with co- workers and clients. In this regard, CWF will not tolerate violence and/or any kind of abusive behaviour, including harassment, sexual and otherwise, from an employee or volunteer toward any other individual. Violent or abusive behaviour, on or off duty, may result in dismissal and/or other sanctions.

4. Speaking on behalf of the organization is limited to those for whom such duties are specifically indicated; or, upon invitation; or, with authorization from CWF.

5. Volunteers are expected to use CWF computer network, Internet, telephones, photocopiers, software, etc., as tools in the completion of their assignments/projects, unless otherwise authorized by their supervisor.

Confidentiality/Non-solicitation

Confidentiality. The Volunteer agrees that they will not, at any time during their volunteer term or thereafter, use any confidential information of the CWF, in whole or in part, in any competitive business, venture or enterprise, or in any other manner that would be likely to prejudice a legitimate business interest of the CWF. The CWF shall not divulge, disclose, or communicate to any person, firm or corporation any information concerning any matters affecting or relating to the enterprise of the CWF, including any information concerning the CWF’s member lists, contributor lists, prices or fees, its marketing, products development and other plans, as well as any of its financial affairs, except where authorized or required by law or by the CWF. This term and condition of volunteer term survives the termination of this Volunteer Agreement.

Non-Solicitation. The Volunteer will not, for a period of one (1) year after termination of their volunteer term with the CWF, either directly or indirectly:

a) approach any customer or business partner of the CWF or its Affiliates for the purpose of providing products or services substantially similar to the products or services provided by the Employer or its Affiliates to the customer or business partner, except with the written consent of the CWF;

b) approach, solicit, entice or attempt to approach, solicit or entice any employee of the CWF to leave their employment, where doing so would be contrary to any legitimate business interest of the CWF. For the purposes of this Agreement, “customer” shall mean any existing or past customer or prospect about which the Volunteer had knowledge at the time of the termination of their volunteer term. “Business partner” shall mean an alliance partner, joint venture partner or other entity with which the Employer has engaged or otherwise collaborated for the purpose of developing or marketing its technology or doing business, about which the Volunteer had knowledge at the time of the termination of their volunteer term.

Employer Property

The volunteer agrees that all materials relating to the business and affairs of CWF, including without limitation all manuals, documents, reports, equipment, working materials and lists of clients prepared by CWF or by the Volunteer in the course of their term, are for the benefit of CWF and shall remain the property of CWF. Upon the completion or termination of the volunteer term, the Volunteer will return to the CWF all such materials and fully comply with the “Protection of Confidential Information Agreement” between the parties.

The volunteer agrees all video tape, negatives and positive, together with the prints, are owned by CWF. CWF reserves the right to use these photographs or electronic images in any print or electronic publications as well as social media.

Assumption of Risk

As CWF carries no accident or health insurance that could compensate a volunteer who has incurred an injury or accident while volunteering for CWF, volunteers are encouraged to review any insurance they may presently carry with their employer or associations. While CWF takes appropriate precautions to ensure a safe workplace, volunteering in this regard is at the volunteer’s own risk.
